Задіяння арештованого майна Російської Федерації. Група американських сенаторів лобіює законодавчу ініціативу стосовно підтримки України

A coalition of senators from both the Democratic and Republican parties has introduced legislation in the U.S. Congress that would allow the use of confiscated Russian sovereign assets to procure military equipment and armaments for Ukraine.

Key Points:

  • The proposed law would enable the utilization of seized Russian assets for acquiring military gear and bolstering Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
  • This initiative aims to shield Ukraine from Russian aggression and sustain its resilience in the struggle for independence.

U.S. Senators Advocate for Legislation to Aid Ukraine

This development was announced on the website of Democratic Senator Tim Kaine.

The “Confiscated Assets for Military Equipment Procurement and Readiness Support” bill was presented by Senators Kaine, Chris Coons, and Sheldon Whitehouse from the Democratic Party, alongside Republicans John Cornyn, Roger Wicker, and Chuck Grassley.

The legislation proposes amendments to existing statutes, permitting Ukraine to leverage assets confiscated from the Central Bank of the Russian Federation and other Russian sovereign holdings to purchase military materiel for defense against Russian aggression.

“The determination and fortitude demonstrated by Ukrainians in defending their homeland against Russian forces are commendable, and the international community must exert every effort to equip Ukraine with all necessary resources for battlefield success and national reconstruction,” stated Kaine.

He further elaborated that this bipartisan legislative endeavor would facilitate the application of Russian sovereign assets towards the acquisition of defense products to support Ukraine’s resistance against Russia.

The current REPO Act already authorizes the seizure of frozen Russian sovereign assets under U.S. jurisdiction and their transfer to Ukraine for compensation, reconstruction, and recovery purposes, as well as for providing economic and humanitarian aid to the Ukrainian people.
