Comprehensive efforts to eliminate the consequences of pollution of Lake Kyrylivske are ongoing.

In Kyiv, work continues to eliminate the consequences of pollution of Lake Kyrylivske, which arose due to Russian shelling on July 2. Over three weeks of comprehensive measures, the volume of petroleum products in the reservoir has been reduced from approximately 350 cubic meters to about 30 cubic meters – that is, more than 12 times. This was reported by the Deputy Head of the KMDA, Valentyn Mondryivskyi.
“Thanks to the joint work of city services and rescuers, a tangible result has been achieved – the volume of pollution in the lake has decreased by more than 12 times. This became possible due to the prompt actions of all services that worked on the site from the first days. At the same time, the work is not yet completed. Our task is to completely eliminate the consequences of pollution, constantly monitor the state of the reservoir, and do everything necessary for its restoration,” noted Valentyn Mondryivskyi.
Units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the city of Kyiv have completed their stage of emergency rescue operations on the reservoir. Rescuers worked around the clock to contain the pollution and pump out the main mass of oil-water emulsion. The Department of Environmental Protection and Climate Change Adaptation, as well as the Communal Enterprise “Pleso,” thank the rescuers for their prompt and professional work, thanks to which it was possible to significantly reduce the volume of pollution and prevent its further spread.
After the completion of the emergency rescue stage, the Communal Enterprise “Pleso” continues its work on cleaning the reservoir, monitoring its ecological condition, and eliminating residual pollution.
This week, specialists from “Pleso,” together with representatives of the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Stolichny District, comprehensively inspected the lake and the shoreline. Samples of water and soil were taken for further laboratory research.
The documentation of the facts and circumstances of petroleum products entering the reservoir is ongoing. This data is necessary for accurately determining the scale of damage caused to the ecosystem and calculating losses.
“We are currently paying special attention to the Syretsky Stream area. Contaminated vegetation is being mowed on its shoreline. After this, sorbent will be reapplied to the cleared areas to bind residual petroleum products in the soil. Contaminated reeds, cut by a specialized amphibious machine Mobitrac, are collected in special big-bags for further disposal. Currently, 45 cubic meters of contaminated organic waste have been collected and prepared for disposal,” added the head of the Communal Enterprise “Pleso,” Andriy Vahin.
The enterprise also continues its weekly measurements of the thickness of the petroleum product film on the lake’s surface. This allows tracking the dynamics of pollution reduction and assessing the effectiveness of the implemented measures.
Comprehensive efforts to eliminate the consequences of pollution of Lake Kyrylivske are ongoing. The Communal Enterprise “Pleso” continues its weekly monitoring of the condition of the reservoir and adjacent territories, and the results of the conducted measures and further steps will be reported additionally.
